What it is

Conference interpreting is a highly qualified profession whose practitioners facilitate oral communication among speakers of different languages at international, as opposed to community, settings.

What it's not

  • Translation--which takes place in writing
  • Judiciary (also called “court”) interpreting--performed at court hearings, depositions, and other legal settings
  • Health-care (also called “medical”) interpreting--at doctors' appointments and hospitals

Expert-to-expert communication

Conference interpreters tackle a wide range of specialized subjects at a variety of meetings, including medical conventions and international court proceedings.

They also interpret at field trips, press conferences, training workshops, live broadcasts, and negotiations. Conference Interpreters enable communication
at expert-to-expert level.
